Hi everyone, my name is Jason Rygus and I was born and raised in our nation's capital of Ottawa, Ontario. I completed my BSc in 2014 and my MSc in 2017 at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario under the supervision of Dr. Cathleen Crudden studying palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions. I then joined the Hall group in the fall of 2017 as a PhD student. Outside of the lab, you can often find me watching movies or enjoying the Edmonton winters at an outdoor rink.
My research is in the area of Boronic Acid Catalysis as a synthetic method for the direct activation and functionalization of alcohols. I am particularly interested in the development of asymmetric or enantioselective reactions and in the development of new dual catalytic methods to expand the utility of boronic acid catalysis in synthesis.
